As part of the $2.2 billion, ten year Pacific Highway Upgrading Program, Baulderstone Hornibrook (BH) has been awarded the contract to design, construct and maintain Section 1 (Karuah Bypass to Viney Creek) of the Karuah to Buladelah State Road Network.

The project, which is 11 kilometres long involves the construction of a four lane dual carriageway and four sets of twin bridges.

Baulderstone Hornibrook's design has provided for plain concrete pavement sub base and base layers.  The concrete is being supplied by Boral Country using a 6 metre split drum plant operating alongside the project and a smaller mobile concrete plant for anciliary concrete requirements. Aggregates and sands are provided by Boral quarries at Seaham and Stockton as well as technical support for testing of the concrete supplied.

Concrete requirements for Karuah are estimated at 100,000 cubic metres for pavements and 10,000 cubic metres for the additional concrete requirements.
